Programmes and activities of La Martiniere SEOMP Society are divided in to four broad categories, they are: (i) In-House skill development trainings at La Martiniere Boys School Complex (ii) Training cum production / job servicing activities (iii) Community based livelihood support programmes for urban / rural poor in slums and low income settlements and (iv) Outreach programmes for the specific target groups like the Inmates of Correctional Homes, HIV Positive Groups, Commercial Sex Workers & family members, Inmates of Childcare Home and so on…

In-House Training Programmes
The In House Training Workshops of the Organization are located within the La Martiniere Boys School Campus and are equipped with the required infrastructure to impart effective skill development training and capacity building of the trainees.

SEOMP’s skill development training covers diverse areas of technical interests and aims at developing competence through practical experiment and trouble shooting. Additional subjects include Entrepreneurship Training, Soft and Life Coping Skills, Spoken English, Personality Development and Interview Skills. Training is imparted by in-house faculty as well as eminent guest faculty members.

Training cum Production Programme
The training cum production programmes on Printing, Tailoring and Machine Knitting were introduced a few years back which expose the trainees in actual commercial and production field. While the printing section of La Martiniere SEOMP takes care of the printing work of La Martiniere and other renowned Schools & NGOs, the tailoring and machine knitting sections of La Martiniere SEOMP also successfully executes orders of school uniform and winter wares that received from La Martiniere and other renowned Schools and Childcare Homes in Kolkata.

Community Based Livelihood Support Programme
The Community Based Livelihood Support Programmes are organized in collaboration with Urban Local Bodies (Corporation & Municipalities) and Civil Society Organizations in slums and low income settlements for the needy and deserving women & adolescents of socially and economically challenged sections of the society.

These programmes are emphasized on women’s sustainable livelihood & economic empowerment aspects and thus involve additional efforts for strengthening the collective initiatives of Self Help Groups (SHG). Community Based Skill Development Training Programmes are identified and decided jointly with the Urban Local Bodies (Municipalities, Community Development Societies & Neighbourhood Committees) and with concerned groups in contrast to In House training where trainees opt for set programmes.


List of Training Courses
At present following courses are undergoing at La Martiniere SEOMP Society at its in house centre and targeted communities. Duration of these training courses vary from 3-18 months.
Some of the above courses are affiliated with the West Bengal Govt. State Council of Technical Education and West Bengal State Council of Vocational Education and Training. A few other courses are also affiliated with the Aliah University and Netaji Subhash Open University.

Project Partnership
Community Based Livelihood Support Programmes are organized in different slums and squatter settlement in collaboration with the following Municipalities under DFID (Department for International Development, UK) supported KUSP (Kolkata Urban Services for the Poor) programme.

• Rajarhat Gopalpur Municipality
• Dumdum Municipality
• North Dumdum Municipality.
• South Dumdum Municipality
• Titagarh Municipality
• Kolkata Municipal Corporation

Apart from Municipalities, community based livelihood support programmes are also organized in collaboration with other International and local organizations such as, St. Patrick Church, Wallington, Surrey, UK, Missionaries of WARD, Cathedral Relief Service, Lutheran World Service India Trust, AASTHA Rural Development Society, Institute of Social Work, and Society for Peoples Awareness, and many others. A few innovative skill development programmes are also under the process of implementation.

Networking Initiatives
La Martiniere SEOMP Society has been able to establish constructive linkage and formal tie up with following renowned Govt. academic, technical and corporate agencies that helps to improve and upgrade the quality of service of the organization according to growing market demand and changing urban need.
Future Focus
Explore possibilities of project partnership on sustainable livelihood and economic empowerment issues especially for the women and unemployed youth with related Govt. Departments, NGOs and leading International / National Development Support Organizations.

Establish an outreach programme centres in the slums under Kolkata Metropolitan Areas and adjoining districts in collaboration with likeminded National / International Development Support Organizations.

Process of planning for joint initiatives with Central & State Urban Development and related agencies, Local Self Governance Institutions and Civil Society Organizations to promote alternative livelihood options as well as ensure the rights to livelihood for the poor and marginalized sections of the society is also in progress which includes components like skill development, action research, field studies & survey, monitoring & evaluation, management and other strategic support to likeminded organizations.
